Storm’s U16 Tornadoes will play in the South West Division 2 this season.
After a tough day’s seeding at Plymouth’s Marjon University, the Tornadoes just missed out on a place in Division 1 for the 2016/17 season.
Tornadoes got an unfortunate draw in the only Pool of six with the other two Pools having five teams each. That meant three wins were needed to make it to Division 1 instead of the two in the other two pools.
With two key defenders missing Tornadoes got off to a good start, leading Pinehurst by four goals in the second half of a 20-minute game before losing 14-13 right on the final whistle.
Defeats followed against Hucclecote and West Exe before Tornadoes notched their first win of the day when they defeated Galmington 23-16.
There was still a hope for the squad to reach Division One if other results had gone their way providing they won their final game against Clevedon Royals.
It was tight at halftime, 8-all but Tornadoes managed to put the pressure on in the second half and ran out 21-11 winners.
Sadly it wasn’t enough to reach Division One but the team will now aim to better their 4th place finish from last season.
“It’s going to be another exciting Regional season for our U16s,” said Head Coach David White. “I’m really looking forward to getting started and I know the girls will be absolutely focused on improving as a squad and finishing as high as they can.”
Matches start on Sunday 20th November with the fixtures coming out soon.
