Solid performance as Storm win again in South West League.
Storm Tornadoes remain unbeaten after two matches in Netball South West U16 Division 2 after a win at home to Swindon side Lawn.
Vice Captain and Goal Defence Phoebe Lagor was unwell so Esme Adams started in her place as the only change from the side that won at Clevedon two weeks ago.
Storm got off to a good start, scoring three without reply before going on to win the opening period 17-11.
Unchanged at the break, Storm extended their lead to 32-22 at half-time.
Wing Defence Beth Fenn swapped with Adams and the third quarter started goal for goal before Caitlyn Oates and Jenna Rogers in the shooting circle hit four consecutive goals to stretch the lead.
Towards the end of the period, Adams fell awkwardly and injured her wrist.
She couldn’t continue which meant a reshuffle at three-quarter time with Brenna Rowe moving to Wing Defence, Chloe Filkins to Centre and Tanni Smitham came on at Wing Attack.
The changes didn’t disrupt the team as Storm finished strong, taking the last quarter 16-11 to wrap up all five points.
With many people tipping Lawn as the favourites for the Division 2 title, Storm Head Coach David White was delighted with the win: “For the second game on the trot we’ve played very well and I was really pleased with our performance,” he said.
“Defensively, once again Niamh had an excellent game and is really taking to Goal Keeper. You’d never think she’s only been playing it for a little over three months!”
Storm Player Of The Match: Jenna Rogers
Goal Attack Jenna Rogers was awarded Storm ‘Player Of The Match’ for the second game running. “I thought Jenna had a great game today but to be honest I can’t think of any of our team that didn’t put in a good performance,” said White.
“I thought our attacking play was superb and Caitlyn and Jenna’s rotations were very good. Also, our centre pass to goal was working very well today.”
Tornadoes next game is away to Keinton on Sunday 8th January.
