Pre-Season Has Started

Chloe Filkins enjoys the first training session of pre-season

Last season is now a distant memory as the Storm players are back in training for the new challenges ahead.

The 2016/17 Senior league matches won’t start until September but the players were itching to get back to training after the club’s annual six week off season break.

But if they were expecting a gentle introduction back to training they got a little shock as the first night unfolded into a dedicated sprint session!

“We decided not to waste sessions gossiping about ‘Love Island’ or ‘Big Brother’ and get straight into the sprints,” said Head Coach David White.

“That’s not to say we don’t have some fun, of course we do that’s what sport is all about, there’s plenty of laughter too! But did they moan about a tough first session? No way, they got straight to it and loved it!”

‘Loved it’ might be a bit of a push but the players certainly didn’t shirk away from the running and the strength work that followed.

“It’s a great time of the year, everyone is buzzing and looking forward to the new season,” said White. “We’re doing a lot more work away from the court this pre-season and into the forthcoming season. It’s very exciting and motivating as we look to continue the club’s and the players’ development.”

The session was brought to a temporary halt though after a cat wandered across the track!

With the weather taking a turn for the worst for the second week’s training there was never any thought of cancelling the sessions.

“Both our Junior and Senior players trained as normal despite the drizzle,” said Secretary Sadie White. “It’s only a bit of rain and it actually seemed to have the effect of invigorating the players even more with a lot of them saying they wanted to train in the rain every week!!”

It may have been wet but that didn't diminish the enthusiasm and enjoyment of the second week of Summer Training.

For the sake of Cornwall’s Tourism industry let’s hope that’s not the case but we can guarantee a few things; training will continue every week rain or shine, the cat will no doubt make a weekly visit, the players will continue to push each other to develop and be the best they can be and if these first two weeks are anything to go by it’s going to be a fabulous pre-season!
