Hurricanes Through To South West Regional League!

Storm Hurricanes, the club's U16 team, have qualified to represent Cornwall in the South West Regional League.

It's the second consecutive season that the Hurricanes have got through to the Regional League and will now face matches against teams from Cornwall, West Devon, East Devon and Somerset.

The team opened the tournament with a tense first fifteen minutes against St Agnes.

They led 10-7 but came off court frustrated knowing they could play better.

The second half was a different story as the Hurricanes found their flow and put a much better performance together winning the period 20-6 to secure a 30-13 victory.

The second match against Penryn saw the girls playing much better through the whole game as they secured qualification with a 37-16 win.

Goal Attack Becky Hocking only missed one attempt at goal all game, while shooting partner Laura Butler only missed two.

With qualification guaranteed Storm mixed things up and gave some court time to the players in the squad who hadn't yet played.

Stacey Bradley and Laura Budd played against Saints alongside Ruth Lovegrove and Hollie Coles who both made their Hurricanes debuts.

The last game was for position (Cornwall 1 and 2) and was a tense affair with Saints winning each half 15-10 and 13-9 respectively but Team Manager Sadie White was delighted with days outcome; "We did what we set out to do and that was to qualify."

Head Coach David White was relieved to get through the tournament; "There was extra pressure on the girls after what they achieved last year and when we started so slowly I was a little concerned but we had a quick refocus at half time in that first game and they went out and showed what they can do.

"They're a great bunch and I was proud of how they turned things around .. Now the fun really starts though!!"

The South West Regional League is slightly different this season with the matches starting earlier.

Storm's first game is at Cornwall's other representatives, Saints, on Sunday 6th November.
