Two well known local community organisations, Storm Netball Club and Carn Brea Leisure Centre Trust have teamed up to ensure netball in Redruth, Pool and Camborne has an exciting future.
Storm who had been forced to base their Senior section temporarily at Penryn, decided to move to Carn Brea to take advantage of the location, extensive facilities and new sports hall floor, which is specifically designed for competitive sports such as netball, badminton and 5-a-side.
The club who have built a reputation as being one of Cornwall’s most professional and family friendly voluntary organisations also hopes the move will support their ambition of reaching Netball South West’s regional league structure within the next five years.
Following approval for the change of venue and name at the club’s recent AGM, Carn Brea Storm’s Head Coach, David White said: "As a progressive club we knew a move to a permanent home venue with fantastic facilities was going to be key to achieving everything we're aiming for.
"We have an exciting vision for the club and how we play the sport and I'm sure our partnership with Carn Brea Leisure Centre is going to be an exciting and successful one for both of us."
Barry Holding, Centre Manager at Carn Brea added, “We are really excited to be working with Carn Brea Storm and very proud to have our venue incorporated in the team’s name. It will be fantastic for the area to have such a successful team playing at the Centre and I am looking forward to seeing both organisations go from strength to strength as a result of the partnership.”
Carn Brea Storm, has four senior teams and features in the top two divisions of the Cornwall Netball League. The club also has a thriving Under 16's section which represented Cornwall in the South West Regional League last season and was awarded the Cornwall Junior Sports Club of the Year in 2010.
Storm already boasts an England Under 17 International in Lottie Richardson who was part of the team that won the European Championships recently plus a host of talented youngsters playing in the Cornwall Academy set up.
Storm's pre-season training starts on June 14th on Portreath Beach then the club moves inside at Carn Brea in August with league matches being played between September and April. The club is open to players of all abilities in both its junior and senior sections as well as club volunteers
