Storm are safely through to the Quarter Finals of the Cornwall Challenge Cup after a delayed start to this match at Penryn College when Bodmin got caught up in traffic.
Fielding a completely new line up in the first team this season Storm struggled to find any cohesion in the early stages of the first quarter as Bodmin, who were surprisingly playing three players from their first team, got off to a better start.
Storm soon hit back though with Goal Attack Betsy Willey shooting 7 out of 7 as Storm led 9-6 at the break.
A much better second quarter saw Storm take a 22-11 lead into the break after winning the period 13-5.
"We certainly got off to a slow start," said Storm Coach David White. "We started moving the ball much better after the first quarter break though and we were bringing the ball through court well."
Storm edged a narrow third quarter 8-7 and lost the last 6-8 but progress to the Quarter Finals with a 36-26 win.
"I never felt we were going to lose this match," said White, "but I also never felt like we were really on fire!"
"We've been fortunate to have some really good players come and join us this season and our first team is now a work in progress as we look to take the club further up the leagues."
"If you bear in mind this was our first game of the season and it's the first time these players have played together it wasn't too bad at all."
"I thought defensively we were pretty solid, we moved the ball through court really well at times and Betsy's shooting was outstanding, she only missed two all game, so there are lots of positives to take from the performance as well as some of the things we know we've got to look at."
"The great thing is the more this team plays together, the more the girls will gel and the stronger they'll get as a unit so I'm looking forward to getting our league season underway in November."
The draw for the Quarter Finals will take place shortly but Storm's coach is realistic about the team's chances of progression. "If you look at the remaining teams then we're the second lowest ranked team left in the competition, only Falmouth are in a lower division than us. The other six teams play in Division 1 and the Regional League so it's going to be tough for us to get any further but we'll see who we get and give it a good go that's for sure!"
