Narrow Defeat For Storm 1!

Story: 18th November, 2009,12:40 | Words: Storm NC | Photos: Andrew Trenoweth

Storm 1 lost out in the final quarter of a thrilling match at St Austell after coming from behind to lead with one quarter remaining.

The home side made the better start and led 13-9 at the first quarter break but Storm hit back to take the next two quarters 11-8 with both shooters scoring 100% in the third.

Leading by one going into the last Storm couldn't quite hold on to take all the points and just lost out by two goals.

Storm Coach David White was full of praise for his team saying; "Obviously we're disappointed we couldn't hold on to take the win but the actual performance itself was much better than our last game and to be honest it could have gone either way."

Both Storm shooters scored 20 goals a piece and Sadie White, with 91%, had her best game of the season under the posts. She was pleased with her success rate, "It was nice to get in the 90's and the more games Betsy and I play together the better understanding we're getting in the circle."

Defensively Storm were strong and coped well with the experience St Austell brought into the circle.

Maggie Moore and Emma Heller got their hands to numerous interceptions in mid court as Storm forced the home side into making uncharacteristic errors.

White felt the team battled well, "I thought we applied a good amount of pressure when we didn't have the ball and our work rate was high attempting to force errors."

"It's only our first league defeat of the season and with it being by only two goals I think it goes to show that we can compete at this level and who knows on another day, with a bit of luck on our side, we might have won."

Storm 1 face a busy week next week when they play Connect 2 away before entertaining the unbeaten league leaders, St Agnes on the Friday.
