The first Shelterboxes arrive in Haiti
Storm Shelterbox Challenge Passes £200!
Story: 24th January, 2010, 18:50 | Words: Storm NC

Storm has taken on a challenge to try and raise enough money to buy a Shelterbox to aid the recovery from the devastation caused by the recent earthquake in Haiti.

After the first week of fundraising the club has already passed the £200 mark thanks to a busy weekend at the Cornwall Under 14 Tournament!!

A huge thank you to everyone who has contributed so far, keep up the great work everyone and let's hope we can reach our target.

If you've contributed or intend to contribute please leave everyone a message below and help inspire the fundraising.

The cost of the box, all the contents plus the transportation is £490 and the club will be trying to raise this amount by Wednesday, 24th February.

Club secretary, Sadie White, is confident the club can reach the target: "Looking at the devastation on television we felt we had to do something to try and help these unfortunate people caught up in the disaster and I'm sure we can get enough money by hook or by crook to send another box out there."

Shelterbox is a charity started almost 10 years ago in Helston by the local Rotary club and last year Storm got involved in the Camborne Rotary Club "Climb Everest Up Carn Brea" event that also raised money for the charity.

ShelterBox Founder and CEO Tom Henderson said: "The devastation in Haiti has moved everyone here. We now have our boxes on the ground and it’s a privilege to help. The scale of devastation is huge. By the sheer grit and determination of our staff and volunteers we have been able to respond in record time."

So how can you help? Well, the easiest thing you can do is to turn up to one of our games and drop a donation into our green bucket! It's going to be at all of our games between now and the February 24th.

Alternatively you could send a cheque, made payable to "SHELTERBOX", to:

David White
BBC Radio Cornwall
Phoenix Wharf
TRURO
Cornwall. TR1 1UA

If you can think of some ways we can raise some money, or just want to send some words of encouragement, please fill in the comments form below. Remember, we've only got until February 24th to get £490. Every penny counts and you can follow our progress on our box above right. As more money comes in the Shelterbox will gradually fill up until the whole box is green.

Please help us if you can. Thank you!
