Lucy Campbell tucks into a malteser topped fairy cake!
Shelterbox Fundraising Reaches £863!

What a week it's been for Storm as the club attempts to raise enough money to buy a Shelterbox for the earthquake relief in Haiti.

Well thanks to the amazing generosity of its members, supporters, players and parents Storm almost has enough money for TWO Shelterboxes!

The week kicked off with a sale of home-made cakes and other baked goodies at the first team's game at home to Connect.

Becky and Lucy Campbell came up with the idea and hosted the cake stall in a room just off the sports hall and by 8pm the tables were full of fabulous looking cakes, flapjacks, brownies & muffins.

There was also some posh coffee for sale and the most delicious hot chocolate you've ever tasted!!

Everybody couldn't wait to buy the scrummy cakes!

There was a great turnout of people to buy the cakes and everyone stayed to create a fabulously noisy atmosphere to watch the first team record their first ever win over local rivals Connect which, to be honest, was the icing on the cake! (Pun intended!!)

There was hardly any cakes leftover by the end of the game but Bev Bradley grabbed what was left and made the teachers at Redruth School buy them the next day at break!

The club made £152 from that event and Saira O'Dwyer summed the whole evening up with these comments on e-mail the next morning; "The cakes were amazing! Having them for breakfast, lunch and dinner today! Well done to Lucy's Mum (Becky), Stacey's Mum (Bev) and Emily's Mum (Stephanie) for making the cakes sell so well, no-one could say "no"! I'm very proud to be part of a club that thinks of others at times like these, from juniors to seniors and their families."

It certainly was a great night and you'll get a chance to taste some of that lovely hot chocolate at our Shelterbox presentation evening on Wednesday, 24th February when Storm 1 play Liskeard Tigers.

Then on Saturday, Maggie Moore and Betsy Willey organised a coffee morning at Paynters Lane End Hall.

It was packed all morning and along with another fine selection of cakes, the girls organised a raffle with some terrific prizes.

They raised an amazing £340 to take Storm's total to £863 which is only £117 short of a second Shelterbox!

Head Coach, David White, was full of praise for everyone involved; "To be honest it's an incredible achievement and just goes to prove what a close knit and family orientated club we are. I think Saira's comments were spot on and Sadie and I are so proud to be running a club that can pull together like this."

Put the date, Wednesday, 24th February, in your diary because we want as many people as possible to come and be involved in the handover to Shelterbox. There'll be hot and cold drinks on sale again and hopefully the first team can complete another perfect night with a win against Liskeard Tigers.
