Storm 2 won a tremendous match at Cornwall College as they got their Division 3 season underway with a win against local rivals Lastonet.

13 year old Evie-Mai Haggar, one of Storm's County Academy players, started the game and played one quarter to give her a taste of the senior league.

She was replaced by Becky Kenward who made her Storm debut with Shannon Russell out with a wrist injury.

Off to the slower start, Storm lost the first quarter 7-4 but bounced back to lead 12-11 at half time after taking the second period 8-4.

Storm edged further ahead after winning the third quarter 8-4 and led 20-15 going into the last.

Lastonet fought back though and levelled the scores at 20-20 to set up a pulsating final seven minutes.

Storm regained their composure though and started to take control of the period.

Dani Ballard was shooting consistently well and Storm moved the ball at pace through centre court with Olivia Ballard, Charlotte Jackson, Saira O'Dwyer and Becky Kenward working to bring the ball safely to the circle.

In defence Ruth Scott and Bianca Lincoln stole numerous rebounds and interceptions as Storm ran out
26-22 winners.

Storm Head Coach David White was delighted with the team's overall performance, "I thought all eight players showed great spirit and a never say die attitude to deservedly win this game. Even though they got back level in the last quarter I always felt we were capable of winning and we went on and did just that."

"Defensively we were strong in the circle and Olivia out on the Wing had an exceptionally good game. In fact all of our centre court was great, Charlotte turned over some great balls and Saira was powerful coming through court."

"The girls have been waiting for this for weeks and I'm so proud of the way they kept their heads when under pressure. It's something we've been focussing on and it paid off tonight. Dani had a great game in the attacking circle and certainly coped with the pressure she was under extremely well."

"Obviously we missed Shannon but I thought Evie-Mai getting a taster of the third division and Becky Kenward making her Storm debut both fitted in very well. I'm really proud of all the girls after this performance!!"

We apologise for a lack of match photos but Lastonet refused us permission to take any!!
