Cornwall Junior Sports Club of the Year 2010
Storm's Massage Therapist, Jessie Maguire

Storm's Award Winning Junior section caters for young players of all abilities and players can join us from age 8 (school year 4) up to 12 (school year 7). Once players reach school year 10 (14-15) they are able to train with our full senior teams.

We realise how difficult it can be to come to a brand new club, only knowing a few people and trying to find your feet straight away but we can guarantee a warm welcome and a friendly group of players.

All players receive quality coaching from England Netball qualified coaches and are trained in all aspects of the game. As with our Seniors, our junior training is safe and enjoyable. We ensure there are always at least two coaches at every session along with qualifed first aid personnel and Duty of Care officers.

We like to ensure players enjoy the game whilst learning and our training sessions are designed with age and ability in mind so whilst they train together an 8 year old player wouldn’t be expected to compete physically with a 12 year old.

How do I join and how much does it cost?

You just need to turn up to a training session and the first training session with us is FREE! Yep, not much is these days but your first session is! We always allow everyone to try a session with us for free first of all before they make up their mind about joining. After that our Junior Membership Fee is £10 per month which breaks down through the season to roughly £2.50 per week.

If you are between 13 and 18 you move onto our Intermediate Membership which gives you longer and more intense training sessions. The Intermediate Fee is £12 per month which breaks down through the season to roughly £3 per week.

Membership fees can be paid monthly by standing order or monthly by cash or cheque at the first training session in the month. A detailed breakdown of our club fees and payment options can be found in our Membership section. Please note there is no option to pay weekly.

The only other expense is England Netball Affiliation which every netball player in England has to pay. This is a fee set by England Netball and the club has no say in how much it is. You will get the England Netball magazine through the post and when you affiliate it means you are covered by the England Netball Insurance Policy.

Click here to download a Player Registration Form for joining Storm. If you wish you can print this out, fill it in and bring it to the training session. A parent or guardian will need to sign the form and please ensure you've checked and signed the Photography Consent section on page two.

Sadie White is the Junior Team Manager and Bev Filkins is the Junior Administrator and either are your first point of contact if you have any queries. Feel free to come and talk to Sadie and Bev at training. They will be able to answer all your questions and give you any forms you may need. Also our Assistant Junior Coaches, Saira O'Dwyer and Lisa Budd, both have daughters in the club so can answer any questions you may have from first hand experience of being a Mum!

What do I need to bring to a training session?

Please ensure you have a bottle of water or similar to enable you to keep hydrated during the training session. Also make sure you have the correct footwear. We encourage the wearing of sports trainers! We know fashion trainers might look better but for playing netball you need to make sure you are wearing a decent pair of trainers designed for sport. We can't stress this enough, if you are planning to train with us for any length of time, and we hope you do, then please get yourself a good pair of sports trainers if you haven't got any already. Trust us, your feet will thank you!! We've even got a guide to buying the right trainers on our site. Click here to have a read through.

A skort (netball skirt with built in lycra shorts) or a pair of shorts with a t-shirt are preferable for training in. You may also need a small towel to wipe away any perspiration.

Matchplay

Our juniors participate in the Cornwall Junior League. Match dresses are provided for players who are selected to play for our league teams.

Last season our U16 Hurricanes team qualified to represent Cornwall in the South West Regional League. They had a fantastic season and finished 4th. All of the players in the team also play in two of Storm's Senior league teams and helped their teams to promotion in that league too!

In 2009/10 our Under 14 Hurricanes team won the Cornwall Under 14 League and represented Cornwall at the Under 14 National Clubs Championship South West Regional Finals. Also, our Under 12 Whirlwinds team finished as Runners Up in the Cornwall Under 12 League.

In 2008/09, our Under 14 team finished 3rd in the league and won the Cornwall's Most Improved Junior Team trophy. Previous to that our Under 12 team finished Runners-Up in the Cornwall Junior League in 2007/08 (our first season) and also proudly won the trophy for Most Sporting Team.
