With Bianca Lincoln and Jackie James both unavailable, Storm gave a debut to another of their youth players with Rachel Cosier starting at Wing Defence then moving to Goal Defence in the second period.
Connect took the second 10-7 to move into a 20-15 half time lead.
"I was pleased to still be in touching distance at half time," said Storm Coach David White. "Last time we played them we won the first quarter then completely collapsed for the following three, that didn't happen this time."
The third quarter finished level at 7-7, Connect leading 27-22 going into the last.
"We knew we had nothing to lose at this point and had to go out and give it our best shot."
It nearly paid off as well as Storm hassled the visitors into making mistakes while under the posts Shannon Russell had her best period as Storm won the quarter 11-9.
"We came so close in the end and I'm so proud of the girls for the effort they put in, not only tonight but in all the training sessions since Christmas."
"I felt we had the momentum in the last quarter and had it gone on for another couple of minutes we may very well have snatched it."
"In the end though we've got to be pleased with a tremendous effort and a vast improvement on how we were playing earlier in the season." |
